This paper studies the academic backgrounds of 76 Nobel Prize laureates in economics between 1969 and 2015. Adopting the inductive and deductive approaches, the paper analyzes the academic characteristics of Nobel Prize laureates in economics through nationality, the award-winning Age, Ph.D. awarded year, representative publication published date, the age of being promoted to the full professor, professional background analysis, doctoral advisor and other contacts, schools of thought, serving agencies and research fields. The goal of this paper is to summarize the general characteristics of Nobel Prize laureates, to provide a successful experience with international vision to the China economic research, to promote China's economic innovative research methods, the study continued training, research capacity and continue to enhance and improve the level of research. Nobel Prize laureates' academic characteristics were analyzed and found in the paper to exhibit the following trends: the Nobel Prize laureates made academic achievement when they were young; they are mainly majored in economics and mathematics, and work in academic institutions of the high level research university; academic schools and teachers and student origin is deep. These give important enlightenment to China's economic research. It should actively cultivate young economics talents and promote economics research and innovation, scientifically adjust the academic achievement evaluation system, create socialism market economics with chinese characteristics, promote the world-class universities and discipline construction.
